Just A Little Touch

Had a little problem and I
thought I needed some help.
One thing that's sure is in this life is that
You can't do it all by yourself.
So I went to the guv'ment man-
They said he was the one to see. He said
"I'd like to help you son, I can
see you've had it rough.
But I've seen what's in your wallet
I don't think you have enough.
But a small donation would
surely help a bunch..."
I said "I ain't askin' for much.
Just a little touch."
I went lookin' for love,
I found it hard to find
Got in touch with a sweet young lady-
She had been on my mind.
So then we got together for a little face time and she said
"I'll say, I like your style.
You seem sensitive, but tough.
But I've seen those wheels you're riding-
I don't think you make enough.
So what I'm really saying is thank you, but..."
I said "I ain't askin' for much.
Just a little touch."
I needed some doctorin'
it was plain to see
So I went to the local clinic
Hopin' to see the M.D.
She kept me waitin' for hours
before she said to me
"I'd like to help you, son- I can
See you've had it rough.
But I've seen your insurance
I don't think you have enough
So what I'm really sayin' is
You can't afford this crutch."
I said "I ain't askin' for much.
Just a little touch."

Quotidian country bullshit
Should sell me a record or two.
I can be dumb as a bag of hammers,
'long as I'm red white and blue.
A jingoistic jangle
Should help put you in the right mood.
A sprinkling of spangle
Will prove to you I'm a good dude.
We're all glad to live in the Home of the Brave,
The land where everyone's free.
Free to be who they want to be
'long as it's 'xactly like me.
All of my friends are hard workin' men,
The hardest men you'll ever see.
They work hard, they play hard
They just make it too hard.
Harder than it needs to be.
My sweet wife Darlene is my rodeo queen.
She always makes me feel proud.
We're made for each other
Like sister and brother-
Oh shit, did I say that out loud?
I can be any religion.
Just as long as it's Christian.
Quotidian country bullshit
Should sell me a record or two.
I can be dumb as a bag of hammers,
'long as I'm red white and blue.

I Belong To Me

We all feel the need to belong
But our choice of word is wrong.
What we seek is connection.
It can be had without possession.
People don't belong to the group.
Groups belong to the people that make them be.
Belonging is ownership.
People are meant to be free.
I belong to me.
I decide who I want to be.
We belong to ourselves.
We decide what we share and with who else.
We don't belong to our nationalities.
We don't belong to our religiousities.
We don't belong to our genetic families.
We belong to ourselves and to all of humanity.
I belong to me.
